Local truck driving jobs are what the dreams of many truckies are made of.
That;s what I was told by my dad, after he finished his 45 years of driving a b-double between Austin Tx and Oklahoma City. Yes, this was his route most of the time…
I remember him complaining rarely about missing important family ocassions, while on the road. but, my mother, although very thankful for the good pay her truck driving husband was bringing home, was often upset by his long absence. And we, as kids grew without our father – he was in care of some $200,000 worth of cargo, and not his children.
Now, when the time came for me to find a job as a truck driver, I started from the ideal: looking for the local truck driving jobs. The newspaper ads hold no hope. After visiting my local labor exchange number of times, my local truck driving career looked even less possible. It took me about 3 weeks of hitting the road and visiting more than 40 small businesses located in the 30 miles radius from Austin. And I found it!

Now, as a delivery driver for a local joinery manufacturer, I’m behind the wheel of a new Mercedes Sprinter – yes. it’s me in the photo. It’s only a five-days week, and the pay is not bad either – I clear about $480 a week. In these difficult times, I’m going to hold to this position as much as I can. The conclusion: seek your local trucking job using all the energy you can muster – it’s worth it!
